Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS)

The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS) manages tsunami-risk-related affairs across 40 Member States with access to the north-eastern Atlantic Ocean and connected seas such as the Mediterranean, Baltic, North, and Black seas.

Origins

It was established in 2005 as a response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Resolution XXIII-13 of the 23rd Session of the UNESCO-IOC General Assembly created it as the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS).
