North-Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean

There is a 100% chance of a tsunami of at least 1 metre in height occurring in the Mediterranean in the next 30-50 years.

As a densely populated coastal area with seismic and volcanic activity-prone areas, the risk posed by both small and destructive tsunamis in the north-eastern Atlantic Ocean and its connected seas like the Mediterranean, North, Baltic, and Black seas must be faced head-on.

Tsunami Ready

Communities recognised Tsunami Ready across the north-eastern Atlantic Ocean, and Mediterranean, Baltic, Black, and North sea basins:

  • France
    • Cannes
  • Turkey

NEAMWave Exercises

Wave Exercises are designed to test official message dissemination from international warning centres to national, provincial and local jurisdictions and the general public. Countries are provided with tsunami scenarios to react to, allowing them to review their system’s responsiveness, enhance their plans' effectiveness, and allow stakeholders and the public to practice key safety skills.

Tsunami Service Providers

Tsunami Service Providers (TSPs) evaluate international tsunami risk and issue information thanks to a dedicated and redundant round-the-clock monitoring of seismic and sea level indicators.

Member States receive such info and are responsible for issuing internal warnings through their National Tsunami Warning Centres (NTWCs) or designated authorities based on their own analysis, on TSPs' advisory messages, or on a combination of all.
